Mespilus Germanica Dutch | Dutch Medlar.
This is a slow-growing tree with a broad crown. Green foliage turns beautiful Autumn tones in a range of oranges and reds. It produces pear-shaped fruit, with a brown rough outer, which has to be fully ripe to be eaten, usually after Winter frosts, and is often used for preserves. Single white flowers (similar to apple blossom) appear in Spring.
Plant in a warm, protected area in well-drained soil.
Make sure you plant the bud union above the soil.
Water in well and keep moist until established.
Fertilise when planting and again when new growth appears.
