The flavours of Australia have arrived at Warran Glen. Get ready to embark on a culinary adventure with our selection of Australian Bush Tucker Plants.
By incorporating these bush tucker plants into your garden, you can experience the joy of growing your own native ingredients, right here in Melbourne.
FINGER LIME
Citrus australasica
Often described as ‘lime caviar’ for its small bead-like crystals of tangy juice, this bushfood is used to pep up drinks, in desserts, as a garnish and even to make marmalade.
We recommend adding finger limes to a classic Mint Mojito. Muddle the flesh of 1 or 2 in with the mint, or add as floating detail in the high ball.

NATIVE OREGANO
Prostanthera rotundifolia
A strongly aromatic herb, Native Oregano is a superior native substitute for common oregano. It’s less sweet in flavour with earthier tones and a slightly citric tang. Use it to add flavour in salads, savoury meat dishes, and sauces, or steep in hot water to make a fragrant herbal tisane.
DAVIDSON'S PLUM
Davidsonia pruriens
QLD Davidson Plum has been an Aboriginal favourite for thousands of years. It produces beautifully tart plum-like berries rich in antioxidants and vitamins. Their refreshing and delectable sourness lends well to both sweet and savoury products, such as jams, jellies, cordials, wines and meat sauces.

MACADAMIA BEAUMONT
Macadamia integrifolia x M. tetraphylla ‘Beaumont’
Also called the Queensland nut, Hawaii nut, bush nut, maroochi nut and bauple nut, this Macadmia cultivar is a world-famous Australian native nut. They have a creamy texture and nutty flavour that’s enhanced by roasting.
If their other dishes are anything to go by, then I can highly recommend this Roast Eggplant With Native Succulents And Macadamia Cream Recipe from Karkalla Byron Bay, a gorgeous restaurant that brings native indigenous ingredients to their menu.
MOUNTAIN PEPPER
Tasmannia lanceolata
Pepperberry, also known as Mountain Pepper, is an evergreen shrub often used as a culinary spice. Both the leaves and fruit have a strong peppery taste and are used to flavour curries and meats.

CHOCOLATE LILY
Dichopogon strictus
As the name suggests, this bushfood has a chocolatey scent. Like other varieties of tuber vegetables, they are delicious just lightly roasted with a bit of salt or butter. The fragrant flowers are also edible and may be added to salads or used as decorative toppings for cakes, biscuits and tarts.
