Port Wine Magnolia.
Botanical Name: Michelia Figo.
This attractive, evergreen shrub produces deep green, glossy leaves. Throughout spring and summer Michelia 'Figo' blooms large, fragrant flowers with a deep purple tone. This plant can be used for hedging and small screening in gardens. They are also ideal potted in large containers or pots.
Michelia is a Magnolia relative and prefers moist, well-drained soil with a warm sunny position.
Once established, Michelia 'Figo' will tolerate light frosts and moderate dry periods.
Michelia 'Figo' is relatively low maintenance. Prune to shape after flowering to encourage healthy new growth.
An annual application of slow-release fertiliser is encouraged, especially during spring.
Michelia 'Figo' can grow to a height and width of 2 metres.
