Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ is one of the most celebrated Japanese Maples for autumn colour, valued for its elegant form and spectacular seasonal display. This small, deciduous ornamental tree produces fresh green, deeply lobed foliage in spring, sometimes lightly tinged with red. The finely divided leaves create a soft, delicate texture that adds refinement to any garden setting.
As temperatures cool, Osakazuki transforms into a blaze of orange, scarlet and vivid crimson, making it one of the most reliable and dramatic autumn performers among Japanese Maples. Its balanced shape and manageable size make it ideal for feature planting in smaller gardens, courtyards or layered landscapes.
Maple Tree Care
Japanese Maples are beautiful, low-fuss trees that reward gardeners with stunning colour in both spring and autumn. They prefer slightly acidic, well-drained soil and a position with shelter from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds.
Water regularly while young, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering. Once established, reduce watering frequency, though consistent moisture during hot weather will support best performance. A slow-release fertiliser in early spring can help younger trees establish strong growth, but mature maples typically require minimal feeding. Pruning is rarely necessary; simply remove dead or crowded branches in summer to maintain shape and tree health.
